Dieterich
C.A. Van Allen, the county surveyor, surveyed and platted the village of Dieterich in 1881. It was named after Michael Dieterich, who owned the original plat of land. Dieterich was on a spur of the former Springfield, Effingham and South Eastern Railroad, which aided local farmers getting their crops to market. It is located in Bishop Township.

Bishop Creek
The village of Bishop Creek was settled around 1837. It was named after Samuel Bishop, the village’s first settler. St. Aloysius Catholic Church was organized in 1859. The current brick church was completed in 1894. The church affairs were carried on in German and English. It is located in Bishop Township.
